Wonder Girls the Most Anticipated Group in the US- KpopStarz Vote

The KpopStarz vote concluded with much participation from US readers and international fans.
The excited KpopStarz’s question of ‘Who is the Most Anticipated Kpop Singer or group in the US?’ concluded with Wonder Girls placing first place with 45.1%.
The poll that lasted for a week from Feb.23 – Feb.29 is meaningful in a sense that it can be the measuring standard for K-Pop that is causing sensation in Asia, Europe, and South America to see how the stars will rush to U.S.
The Wonder Girls who placed first is the leading Korea idol singer that paved the way to enter the American market. The US fan base they have gained in the States seems to the reason for wining first place.
The fan base they have gained and the experiences of their activities in the US led voters to think of the group having a higher possibility of being successful in the states.
After the debut of their first single album ‘Irony’ in February 2007, they became popular with the title track ‘Tell Me’ from their first album ‘The Wonder Years.’ It was selected as most popular song of the year in Korea. The Wonder Girls received a grand prize in 2008 at 18th Seoul Music Awards, one of three major music awards, for ‘Nobody’ beating out strong rivals of DBSK, and Big Bang.
The Wonder Girls first solo concert ‘The 1st Wonder’ ever in 10 years for a Korean girl group began in Bangkok, Thailand on February 2008 continuing in Los Angeles, Orange County, New York, Seoul and Busan.
At the end of the tour JYP Entertainment announced the group to enter the U.S. market. Their first English single ‘Nobody,’ was released in 2009. The group joined the Jonas Brothers North American tour as the opening act to perform for a total of 45 concerts before an estimated total of 1.5million audience. The girls made their first US television debut on ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ performing ‘Nobody.’
Wonder Girls was successful in entering the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart with ‘Nobody’ seven months after their debut in U.S. Making them the first Korean group ever in the 115 years of history to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and first time in 30years as an Asian singer.
JYJ with 30.6% fought until the last minute unfortunately had to be satisfied with second place. It’s still an encouraging record compared to the fact they haven’t officially entered the U.S. market yet. Due to their popularity in Asia many have high expectations towards the group.
TVXQ who started off as number 1 in the beginning of the poll marked third place with 9%. Big Bang who fiercely followed a bit later is in fourth place. Girls’ Generation who recently made their US TV debut placed 5th. Followed by 2PM, 2NE1, Super Junior, miss A, SHINee who respectively ranked from sixth to tenth.
